As in any hostel, food and cooking at Casa Feliz are your own responsibility. That said, pooling for food and cooking is always advantagous for all and fun. Our experienced staff can help you plumb the mysteries of the Mercado, and show you how to prepare native dishes like nacatamales and staples like nicaraguense and plantains. When we can get them, the apple bananas are to die for.
We often obtain unbelievably fresh fish at unbelievable prices. Codo makes a spectacular Ceviche' (Raw fish in lime juice), and Ben's "secret surfer soup" with some red pepper will warm your insides after a long day on the water.
Our kitchen is reasonably complete, with gas fed stove, refrigerator, and a full complement of cookware and silverware. Bottled water, and many spices are stocked, and our favorite device is the blender, which has yielded many a fine mango smoothie thus far.
Outside there's a BBQ for those days when you just have to grill.
If you are looking to eat out, we know all the best restaurants, too. The best nicaraguan food is at Vilma's, although Timon's by the beach is always good, and if you are hungry for a taste of home, we recomend Jerry's Pizza, Mediteraneo Colibri, and the spectacular Pelican Eyes. All these restuarants of San Juan Del Sur are less than a block from Casa Feliz.
